Wanted: Marketers & Creatives Who Get It
Mountwell’s been growing beyond our wildest dreams and we want to partner with other professionals who really know what they’re doing and genuinely want to deliver results for small business owners.
We’re looking for go-to experts who will serve as freelancers and consultants on a variety of client projects, both to improve the quality of our services, and allow us to bring on more clients. You’ll work like an extension of our team - not someone hiding behind the scenes.
Here are the specific roles where we need help. If you’re interested or know someone you’d recommend, fill out the brief form at the bottom of the page.
Website Designer & Developer
We want to work with an experienced web designer who can lead the development of building new websites, refreshing or transitioning existing websites, and assist with other web-related tasks needed to execute other digital marketing projects. Here’s the profile we’re looking for:
Required Skills & Knowhow
Advanced experience in the CMS platforms best-suited for small businesses: Squarespace, Wordpress, Wix and Shopify (listed in priority order). If you only specialize in one or two of them, that’s OK! You should be able to:
Use the platforms correctly and efficiently. You know where everything is, utilize the native functions to their fullest extent, and can quickly make custom adjustments if necessary. You understand how the builders were intended to be used and don’t introduce unnecessary complexity, like custom CSS where an existing setting could’ve been used. This is critical so our clients can easily maintain their own sites in the future.
Build flawless first drafts. Every page looks great on desktop and mobile, all text is checked for spelling and grammar, images are optimized, buttons and forms work, etc., the first time.
Add creative flair to each project. Every business has some unique personality, offering, or market situation, and we’re doing a disservice if we don’t make their sites distinct from their immediate competition in some way. You should instinctively want to push boundaries and bring unique design details to each project.
Advanced understanding of analytics tools. It’s essential for every business we work with to at least have Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and Google Tag Manager setup and implemented correctly. When complexities arise, like cross-domain tracking between a client’s website and a third-party platform (tools like Acuity, HighLevel, Momence, Service Titan, etc.), you should be able to implement, test and troubleshoot to ensure their analytics are accurate.
Required Approach & Attitude
You don’t sandbag your estimates. A lot of designers quote low hourly rates but then inflate the number of hours it takes to get work done. We don’t operate that way. Estimates need to be honest and justifiable. You should charge a fair rate and get the job done well as quickly as you can.
You don’t need extensive guidance to get things done. Small businesses don’t have budget for fluff, and their websites don’t need to be over-engineered. We definitely believe creative briefs and clear requirements actually save time in the long run, but we don’t pad our projects with lots of upfront discovery, persona development, user-journey maps, unnecessary wire-framing, etc. You should be experienced and independent enough to execute a scope and design direction without excessive hand-holding.
You roll with the punches. Sometimes clients have weird or annoying requests or questions. If you’ve worked in the profession long-enough, you should come to expect this and know that it’s a part of the job. You should always be candid with your recommendations, but also not get frustrated if a client chooses to go in a different direction.
Other Important Requirements
Availability during normal business hours in U.S. time zones. We have clients in Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific time zones, and you should be available to join meetings or communicate online for at least a few hours during those times.
Diligence using project management software. We use project management software (Wrike) to keep track of work and share feedback. We’ll add you into our system and need you to keep your tasks updated in there. It’s not about adding busywork; we’ve found this is way easier and less confusing then trading lots of emails/texts/chats.
